Freedom of expression is a universal value, and the media must be allowed to be totally independent. News regulation is nothing other than suppression of the public and goes against every principle of freedom. Government attempts to monopolize the media, the internet and all other channels of speech must be opposed at every step.

Once a ceasefire can be achieved in Iraq, the UN should provide the basic principles of constitutional government in order to foster peaceful development in all nations. This should include the implementation of universal values such as freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law as well as direct election of the heads of the four branches of government. China has always advocated "compliance with the UN resolutions and strict sanctions against North Korea", but Pyongyang’s reaction to Beijing’s halt in imports of North Korean coal shows that China has clearly not been strictly enforcing the sanctions. China claims to be a "responsible major power", and as such it should not provide support for North Korea's militarism. The Chief Executive of Hong Kong is still selected from a slate of candidates offered by the Central Election Commission, an arrangement which is entirely in keeping with the nature of a dictatorship. The people of Hong Kong should make good use of Article 39 of the Basic Law, which states that they have the right to self-determination through referendums. To curb corruption, the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches should be elected in alternating years, and 1/4 of all MPs should face election each year. Russia’s Constitution is designed to give the executive powers that override those of the legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches. So how can Russia hope to help Syria resolve its civil war problem? The international community should provide constitutional principles that are relevant to permanent peace, including the ideals of freedom, democracy, human rights, and rule of law. It should call for election of the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches and other mechanisms that will help Syria enjoy peace and prosperity.
