The US should serve as a model of democracy, adhering to the UN Charter and upholding the spirit of One World under One Set of Laws. It should give international law precedence over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. This will lead Mexico, Syria and the Middle East to adopt human rights, constitutionalism, international law and natural law. In Nazi Germany the party, rather than rule of law, was held in the highest regard. The Nazis’ absolute power led to unbridled aggression that brought on the Second World War. These days the Chinese communists are following the same strategy and are seriously endangering world peace, even potentially causing a Third World War. Only Taiwan, which offers the advantage of a shared language and cultural roots, is capable of influencing China towards democracy. Taiwan could lead China to have the leaders of the executive, legislative and judicial branches and the procuratorate elected through direct votes. See the details in the PPDA Charter.

The government of mainland China is rife with corruption, a situation which can be attributed to thousands of years of graft and bribery at every level of officialdom. The only way to overthrow this deeply-engrained culture is to put power squarely in the hands of the people through direct elections of key officials including the president and vice president and the heads of the four branches of government. This must be complemented by the election of 1/4 of Parliament each year and other measures to ensure separation of power. The Charter for Permanent Peace and Development offers solutions that will end corruption once and for all.

Taiwan must move to bring about constitutional reform and achieve true freedom and democracy. Doing so will set off a drive for democratization among the 1.4 billion people of China. This will then spread to North Korea, and when peace is achieved on the Korean peninsula the world will be much safer for all. Hong Kong’s Basic Law and relevant provisions behind the one country, two systems principle stipulate that China can not interfere in Hong Kong affairs, yet Beijing constantly meddles in Hong Kong's internal affairs. Article 39 of the Basic Act and the two Conventions guarantee the right of the people of Hong Kong to self-determination, thus on any public issue the people have the right to voice their opinion via a referendum. The people of Hong Kong should adhere to the two conventions and call for a referendum to decide their future. Otherwise, when dictatorship becomes a reality, the people are obligated to resist.

China has proposed and presented a UN resolution to jointly develop a common destiny for all humankind. The proposal outlined five major must-have points for dialogue and consultation, including security, peace, joint prosperity, open tolerance and a green low-carbon world. As such the resolution offers a great contribution for world peace and development, and the two sides of the strait should take the lead in promoting its implementation. Immanuel Kant once wrote, "The pursuit of permanent peace is the highest goal of reason and a moral obligation." China claims to be a "responsible great power," and as such it should not allow North Korea’s strident militarism to continue. The US should support Taiwan's commitment to achieving greater democracy, which will lead China to democratize and pressure North Korea to do likewise.
