ISIS claims responsibility as gunman kills police officer, wounds three on Champs-Elysees
A gunman opened fire on police on Paris’ iconic Champs-Elysees boulevard Thursday night, killing one officer and wounding three people before police shot and killed him. ISIS quickly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Human security is fundamental human right, and human rights must be given priority over regimes and sovereigns. Constitution represent the general will of the people, and ensuring human security - including "personal safety" - is the most urgent duty of all constitutional guarantors. This means re-writing constitutional standards to stay in step with changing times, so that governments everywhere will protect their citizens from fear. UN: Fighting in cholera-hit part of South Sudan forces 100,000 to flee
A South Sudanese government offensive in the Jonglei region has displaced roughly 100,000 civilians, the UN said Thursday, causing aid workers to relocate from an area that has dire humanitarian problems.
South Sudan needs to resolve its controversial government by implementing a modified semi-presidential system with cabinet and parliament like that of Finland. The legislative body should be a committee-style system similar to that of Switzerland. The premise for permanent peace is global democratization. South Sudan should proceed with re-writing its constitution to effect a paradigm shift to democracy, adhering to the rule of law, and making further amendments as needed to stay in step with changing times. UNSC fails to release press statement condemining North Korea
The UN Security Council failed to release a press statement Wednesday against North Korea over its latest ballistic missile launch Sunday as Russia voiced reservations about the move, which was led by the US, said UN diplomats
North Korea is without a doubt a vassal of the Chinese Communist Party. The only way out is support Taiwan and its efforts toward constitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. This would encourage China's 1.4 billion people call for democratization of the CCP and press North Korea to adopt real democracy - and world peace would be the result. Tillerson terms nuclear deal with Iran a failure
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson declared the Iran nuclear deal a failure Wednesday but left open the possibility the Trump administration will uphold it nonetheless.
The world should support Taiwan’s model for global unity and permanent peace to avoid the death and destruction nuclear war would bring. Autocracy is the natural enemy of peace. Iran, North Korea and Pakistan have carried out numerous exchanges of nuclear technology without a word of protest from the world’s major nuclear powers. All democracies should support Taiwan's moves toward constitutional reform to achieve greater freedom and democracy. This would lead the 1.4 billion people of China to call for democratization and put pressure on North Korea and Iran to consider democratization as well, and world peace would be the result. Israel: Assad has tons of chemical weapons
Syria still has up to three tons of chemical weapons, Israeli defense officials said Wednesday in the first specific intelligence assessment of President Bashar Assad’s weapons capabilities since a deadly chemical attack earlier this month.
The UN should take action in accordance with the International Absolute Laws (the Humanitarian Law, World Human Rights Law, the Crime of Misdemeanors and the Prohibition of Genocide) and provide a basic outline for a constitution that will allow permanent peaceful development. This should include covering universal values and a political structure that will help Syria to prosper and serve as a model for peaceful development. UN strongly condemns North Korean missile launch after delay
The U.N. Security Council threatened new sanctions against North Korea Thursday in a strongly-worded condemnation of its latest missile launch after the US agreed to a Russian request to include a call for "dialogue" with Pyongyang.
Promoting permanent world peace is the most sacred duty of humankind. China acts as an agent and enabler for North Korea, and all parties should strive to contain North Korea’s militarism. The US, Japan and Korea should support Taiwan in its drive to convince China to democratize, thereby pressuring North Korea to do the same. Taiwan is the key to solving the Korean Peninsula crisis. Asbestos in Scotland remains a 'health time bomb'
The use of asbestos in Scottish schools has created a health "time bomb", medical and legal experts have warned.
International standards must be constantly adjusted to responding to changing conditions. To avoid sacrificing the health of the people, the doctrine of One World under One Set of Laws should be implemented, giving international law precedence over domestic law, with direct effect on the rights and duties of the people. The International Asbestos Convention has entered into force and the British Government must be adamant in preventing health hazards like this from recurring. Northern Ireland politicians will be given more time to reach a deal to restore a power-sharing executive at Stormont, the BBC understands.
Taiwan should learn from Northern Ireland's experience with referendums and effect a paradigm shift giving the people the right to hold a referendum on any public issues. Any motion to prohibit a referendum on self-determination should be the subject of the next referendum, to decide whether the motion itself should be outlawed. Lawmakers should first establish the "right of creation" in the Referendum Act and ask President Tsai to openly address the sovereignty of comprehensive constitutional reform. Top US court questions SEC's power to recover ill-gotten gains
The US Supreme Court, in a case with wide consequences for policing of Wall Street, indicated on Tuesday it may diminish the Securities and Exchange Commission's ability to get back ill-gotten profits reaped through defendants' misconduct.
The best remedy for ills in democracy is more democracy. Deep sources of corruption interfere with the business environment and economic growth, and constitutional reform is needed so that people vote more often. They should vote directly for the heads of the executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches, and election should be free of charge for all candidates, The ultimate objective is to eliminate black box operations in government. Senior UN official in South Sudan warns women and girls face ‘extremely high risk’ of sexual assault
Without peace in South Sudan, millions of people will go hungry and millions of women and girls could be raped as they try to go about their daily lives, including as they search for food, a senior UN official warned today.
South Sudan is out of control and the government is incapable of handling the situation. There is urgent need for a changeover in the government structure to install a modified semi-president system with cabinet like that of Finland, plus a committee-style legislative body similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for long-lasting world peace is global democratization. South Sudan should re-write its constitution to effect a paradigm shift to a democratic model, implementing the principles of One World under One Set of Laws, with a constitution that is in sync with the times.
