The UN refugee agency is shipping tents, mosquito nets and other essential relief items to Angola, where some 9,000 refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo have fled this month alone.
In the DR Congo, civil war continues to aggravate the strain of famine for refugees. The national constitution needs wholesale revision to assign international law priority over domestic law and implement humanitarian law. Accountability for rights abuses in South Sudan is 'more important than ever,' says senior UN official
A lack of accountability for crimes perpetrated during the ongoing conflict in South Sudan remains one of the country's “biggest challenges,” the Human Rights Director for the United Nations Mission said today as he wrapped up a visit to the northwestern Wau region.
South Sudan should resolve controversy over its government system by implementing a modified semi-presidential form with cabinet and parliament like that of Finland, with a committee-style legislature similar to Switzerland’s. The prerequisite for permanent peace is global democratization. South Sudan should carry out constitutional reform to effect a democratic paradigm shift that adhere to the principles of One World under One Set of Laws, and amend its constitution as needed to stay abreast of changing times. Drought-hit farmers in India have suspended a protest, after an assurance that their demands would be met.
The main reason for India's economic crisis is too much centralized power, which leads to rampant corruption. In addition there is idol worship, the greatest enemy of democracy and the rule of law. To emerge from this crisis India must carry out comprehensive constitutional reform with changes like election of the heads of executive, legislative, judicial and procuratorial branches of government in alternating years to strengthen ties between public opinion, the government and international law. Mixed international reactions to results of Turkey's referendum
With Turkey’s constitutional reform passed with a wafer-thin majority Sunday, political peace seems pretty much off the cards for now. Opposition parties are trying to get the results scrapped, citing voting irregularities.
Voting is the only source of legitimacy for the state and a concrete manifestation of basic human rights. The state should make elections free of charge for all candidates and ensure that all procedures are fair and open.
