Stories of corruption and undue political influence are flooding news headlines everywhere from the western reaches of Europe to the most Eastern areas of Asia. The reason for these outbreaks of corruption is the concentration of too much power in the hands of a few key officials and a lack to restraints on the powers that they wield. South Korean President Park Geun-Hye has been engulfed by a scandal centering on a confidante who is accused of using personal ties with Park to coerce local firms to donate millions of dollars to a non-profit foundation. The confidante is also accused of interfering in state affairs, and two former advisors are accused of helping her gain entrance to the presidential office. The scandal has sparked nationwide fury, with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets to call for Park’s resignation. Under South Korea’s constitution, the incumbent president may not be charged with a criminal offence except insurrection or treason. But many argue a sitting president can be investigated by prosecutors, then charged after leaving office. The problem of corruption can only be solved through constitutional reform. Article 39 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law specifies that residents of the administrative region have the right of self-determination. The people of Hong Kong must not fall asleep while their rights are in danger. Take a lesson from the Swiss, where the signatures of 50,000 citizens are sufficient to call for a referendum, meaning that public issues can be settled with a vote with no need to take to the streets. Taiwan must move to bring about constitutional reform and true freedom and democracy. Doing so will set off a drive for democratization among the 1.4 billion people of China. This will then spread to North Korea, and with peace on the Korean peninsula the world will be much safer for all. The world’s democratic nations must back Taiwan as a beacon of democracy for Asia which will illuminate the road to peaceful development for China. The planet we live on must be accorded the benefits gained in universal human wisdom to solve problems which face all humankind. Global free trade and a commitment to bilateral alliances will help bring about peace and prosperity, and enforcement of the principle of One World under One Set of Laws is one keys for realizing this goal. Whether or not a nation is a member of the UN, it should strive to abide by the norms of the international community, acting to give International law precedence over domestic laws and directly affect people’s rights and obligations. The people have the right to call for a referendum at any time on any public issue with relation to self-determination. Any measure which might restrict the ability of the people to self-determination through the process of holding referendums should itself be subject to a public referendum on whether the measure should be outlawed. When state organs are the ones abusing human rights, the only way out is to give the people power to resist illegal acts by officials. Officials should serve as the people's lawyers, assisting them in exercising their constitutional guarantees and prosecuting public officials who violate these rights. Human Security and Sustainable Development are two central objectives of the UN. All nations, whether or not they are UN members, should be committed to comply with the norms of the international community. The most effective solution for this issue is strictly enforcing the core values of One World under One Set of Laws, giving priority to international law over domestic law, with direct effect on the people. Proceeds from the repatriation of embezzled funds to the public treasury have not been used to eradicate the causes of corruption. Russian laws should stipulate that anyone who takes or accepts a bribe will be exempted from punishment if he or she confesses voluntarily and surrenders all funds involved. Informants in bribery cases may be eligible to receive up to half of the amount of the bribery. Constitutional reform is needed to choose the heads of government branches in direct elections, and elections should be free of charge for all candidates. The source of chaos in the Western world is the evil of populist dogmas - the rise of right-wing nationalism. It is clear for all humankind that no lessons were learned from the horrifying experience of WWII. The only way to resolve the crisis of Western political turmoil is to improve the system through constitutional reform, choosing the heads of the executive, legislative, judiciary and prosecutorial branches through direct election each year. In addition, 1/4 of members of Parliament should face election each year, with interchanges between local public opinion and international entities as well as elections that are completely free from monetary influence or other forms of interference.
