Separation of powers is an important part of democratic politics, but the current US president is causing many to feel that even stronger controls are needed to prevent him from taking rash and dangerous actions - threats that he has voiced a number of times in his unpredictable 'tweetstorms'. A better solution would be to introduce mechanisms that will make all branches of the government more responsive to the will of the people through term limits, direct election and monitoring of government operations by individuals. §1.9 §1.10 §5.1 §6.1 §6.10
North Korea is obviously being backed by a major power. All democracies of the world should support Taiwan's efforts to lead China to democratize. This would put pressure on North Korea to follow suit and drop its nuclear weapons program. At the same time, the US needs to take steps to ensure that any actions by the US and its allies in East Asia will not needlessly provoke the North Korean regime. North Korea is one of the 50 nations where the people suffer under the yoke of an autocratic dictator. All democratic nations should back Taiwan's drive forconstitutional reform to achieve greater democracy and freedom. For more, see the Charter for Permanent Peace and Development.
