Democracy and freedom are waves sweeping the world, and nuclear weapons, submarines, and missiles are helpless to stop them. Those who ‘go with the flow’ will prosper, while those who oppose it are doomed. China claims to be a "responsible major power” thus it should not continue to support North Korea's continued militarism. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the hurdle for referendum proposals is only 50,000 signatures, giving people the right to express their opinions by voting rather than taking to the streets. The people have the right to call for a referendum on any public issue, otherwise when dictatorship becomes a reality they will be obligated to resist. The worst aspect of Chinese culture is too much rule of man and too little rule of law. Corruption is pandemic throughout China's five thousand years of history, and the only way to remove it is democracy. Decentralization and separation of powers are desperately needed, including election of the heads of the legislative, executive, judicial and procuratorial branches in alternating years. Freedom of expression is a universal value. Governments cannot be allowed to control the media in order to brainwash the people. This can be assured by maintaining separation between the government and the media. At the same time, any media that use their power or resources to interfere with politics, academia or public opinion should be subject to legal sanctions. Human security and sustainable development are two of the major tasks of the UN, China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council thus it should adhere closely to the UN Charter. This can be done by implementing One World under One Set of Laws and assigning international law priority over domestic law with direct effect on the people. China needs to remove the stains of thousands of years of corrupt culture. The only remedy for this national disgrace is democracy and the rule of law. These are the natural enemies of despotism and corruption, with tools like separation of powers and checks and balances. Decentralization and election of the heads of the four branches of government are desperately needed to stem the ongoing flow of corruption.
