Hong Kong’s last governor is ‘astonished’ at Britain’s behavior and says it must be firmer as it searches for a post-EU trade relationship
Article 39 of the Hong Kong Basic Law notes that the right to self-determination is guaranteed by the two international human rights conventions. The people of Hong Kong cannot take their rights for granted. In Switzerland the threshold for holding referendums is only 50,000 signatures, and with that the people can voice their opinion by voting rather than taking to the streets.
